Majestic purple mountains capped with glistening snow cause some to gasp in awe, some even to worship. But those peaks are a result of tectonic activity that broke the earth's crust and displaced other once beautiful things.
Some of our most beautiful flaming sunsets here in the valley resulted from a horrific volcanic eruption in the Philippines. Their destruction gave us a particled sky, ribboned in gold and red.
When I hear someone praise the majesty of creation and the One who created it, I find myself saying inside, "But wait!" If this beauty is the brokenness, what must creation have been like before the corrupting blackness of evil, and what must the world God is preparing be like in comparison.
