The Blood-red Dance!
Dance!
It’s a tenuous dance,
a blood-red dance,
held by a string and a prayerful hope.
Then the wind and a twirl–
Dance!
The risk of the fall is worth the dance now.
The forever mystery of death calls for joy now.
Why mourn the blood-red clinging,
in this the prelude?
Dance!
I think this must be a sweet gum tree! The telltale sign? The little spiky balls!
ReplyDeleteIt is called seet gum, but I like its other name liquidambar--more poetic. :) Actually, my sycamore out front has the spiky balls, too, but it's leaves are muddy yucky brown. Not very photogenic in the fall.
DeleteHow about "sweet"?
DeleteMy daughters are both home for a week, so I am not getting to the computer as often as usual...
ReplyDeleteThat said, I love all the leaves you have been capturing, and the hummingbird!! He had better get his little tail south soon! My favourite shot of him is the one where he has his beak up in the air, looking all snooty!!
We definitely have fewer now, but I've heard they sometiems stay this far south if they have a food source. We'll see.
DeleteThe sweetgum leaves are so lovely. I like how you've captured the few that are left.
ReplyDeleteIt is so interesting the differnt stages it goes through, and my neighbor probably thinks I'm nuts always taking pics of his tree. :)
