There is Beauty in the Fallen
The young and vibrant are praised just because–
all that color and life a grace.
But even in the light grip of the wounded and aged–the letting go–
there is a glory.
There is beauty in the fallen and glory in the shadows.
Loss is not loss, just change; and
all is grace.

Defiant or Oblivious?
Notice where he is eating his luscious little peanut!
(I’m not too mean: At least it is a live trap = all expense paid to somewhere far away.)

To All of Us
Do I feel safe, knowing it was New England and not California?
Is 3000 miles a wide enough span to let me breathe, while clucking my tongue at such horrors in the world?
Is 3000 miles far enough away to feel adequate sorrow without having to give my whole heart away?
When is far too close?
When is close too close?
When is that sorrowing, grieving stranger–that dead stranger–close enough to tear through the callous of my safety and otherness and cause me to not only put a candle on Facebook for a second’s notice,
but
to pray in a real and pleading way that God would heal and help and intervene in this bloody brokenness–
this brokenness that, though not mine,
belongs to all of us.

A Goose Moment
I guess Monday morning is just as much a goose moment as any other day. What is not seen in these pics is the Canada Goose who hissed at me since I was in the way to competing for the desirable grain treat this white goose was consuming. I guess he didn’t have time to verify my green card. And you thought all Canadians were nice.

- dorannrule says:Oooooh! He looks very wary. Are all Canadians wary? My oldest real friend is Canadian. I have always thought she was a loving, giving, nice friendl. But then maybe when it comes to grain……
- apronheadlilly says:He’s wary because he’s an American goose. I didn’t get the hissing Canada goose because he was . . . well, hissing. I actually did get him later.
- pattisj says:They do get an attitude. One definitely doesn’t want to get too close to a Papa guarding his young.
- apronheadlilly says:I have heard that they can be quite aggressive; that’s why I am amazed at ponds when parents have theiricute little kids down at eye level handing them bread. Nuts.

May I have this dance?
Should I ask her?
I usually don’t go for the tall ones, but her beauty is staggering.
Excuse me, mademoiselle? Hmm, may I have this dance?
I assume her delicate and feminine silence is a yes.
Ah, the music, heavenly. What do you think? Ah, just as I thought–a woman after my own heart: few words and all action.
Her sullenness kind of got to me after awhile. It seemed attractive at first, but a bit unnerving after the waltz.
And I really don’t understand why she would not let me walk her home. Women!
