I would abandon my boring blue skies
for this--first breath of winter.
Let the sun beat the desert floor another day;
for now, let this crystalline colored breath and cheek plumming wind
chase me home to hot chocolate or fresh free trade coffee.
The wind at my back, my bike geared up, dog at the trot,
all senses tingling at this frosty pleasure.
Beautiful photos. As I recall these are joshua trees ???
ReplyDeleteYes, there are very few places int he world where they grow. These are in the high desert of California. They have their own kind of beauty, but I prefer a pine or deciduous forest, all the same. :-)
ReplyDeleteMmm... I completely agree with your poem!!
ReplyDeleteHappy Christmas!
ReplyDeleteMay you have much joy in 2012.
Sherry, who misses the butterflies
Have a happy Christmas, one and all! Sounds like Tiny Tim!
ReplyDeleteGorgeous photos! I like the snow on the distant hills! I wonder if you would still love winter so much if you had as much snow as we do... I suppose I could always move, if I really couldn't stand it...
ReplyDeleteI love the photos of the hawk in the next post! It is the most incredible colours, and you were so close to it!!!!
I was close because I am feeding his prey. :-( Oh, well. He is fabulous! The first one I got, a few posts back, arrived after I had cleaned my window so I could get pics from inside. Whenever I tried to shoot pics, my birds would leave, so I had my window clean just in time for the first one and then this one to make a showing!
ReplyDeleteBTW, I'm from Ontario originally, so I know snow! But my dad drove a snow plough so it wasn't much of a problem. :-) We always got to school!
For me, grey skies over the desert are always a surprise. Lovely snow-covered mountains in the background!
ReplyDeleteYup! Love the storms!
